80s Miami neon aesthetic desk setup

01 Start with the sunset palette, not neon everything
The look people are actually chasing is a three-colour sunset: hot pink, deep teal and a warm amber horizon line. Pick those three and stop. Rooms that add green, red and blue on top read as generic RGB rather than a deliberate palette, and they photograph muddy.
02 Neon noir is contrast, not brightness
The reason the aesthetic works on screen is darkness with a few saturated light sources cutting through it. Turn the ceiling light off, paint or drape the back wall in a deep matte tone, and let two or three fixtures do all the work. A bright room with neon in it is just a bright room.
03 Put one warm object at the centre

04 Add chrome, glass and one palm

05 Give the room grain
The aesthetic comes from film and video, so perfectly clean surfaces feel wrong. A textured wall, a slatted panel, a strip of venetian blind in front of a light source that throws hard lines across the desk — anything that breaks flat light into shapes.
06 Add motion so it does not look staged
One moving element separates a room from a showroom photo. A slowly rotating levitating lamp, a fan behind a plant, a lava lamp in the corner. Motion is also what makes the setup work in short-form video, where a static desk gets scrolled past.
